		Sheila grew up on the east coast of America and throughout most of her childhood weekends were spent in the mountains of New Hampshire in a small village called Snowville. These weekends away always involved connecting with the natural surroundings and what nature had to offer. "My life has been strongly influenced by my love of nature and the outdoors" As an adult she worked for many years as a landscape designer. After arriving in New Zealand she continued working by day in a landscaping business called "Rosa Rugosa" and by night she would commit her passion of the land to canvas with paint. In 2005 she was awarded the prestigious opening award at the Invercargill Licensing Trust Award Exhibition. Her work has also been featured in Denis Robinson's 2010 book "New Zealand Gallery". Sheila has always lived by the beach and her art reflects the strong influence of the much loved coastal environment. " The seagull is a beautiful bird; just look at the colours. For me the seagull represents freedom, summer, peace." Sheila works full-time as an artist creating works in oils, acrylics, water colours and mixed media.

'I like to think my work evokes a peaceful and restful feeling. I love to capture a moment in time, when for a split second you stop and almost feed on something that slows your breath. Nature has lent me these moments. Inspiration for my work comes from my love of our surroundings that we are so privileged to have. My work has a common theme of our native birds,their diverse nests and feathers combined with layers of fragile voil lace and highly tropical patterned fabrics entertwined with crisp glass vessels placed with na’ive organic shaped urns. Movement is created with a whispy breeze playing threw the fabrics and allowing a feather or two to float gently across often coming to rest on a delicate flower- a quiet peaceful time. Sometimes I use tapa cloth with its illustrated stories. I mix acrylic, oils, cont’e, oil pastel and resin together to create this feeling of quiet tranquility. A private moment suspended in time with paint for ever.'
