ARCHIVE
GROUP & CHARITY EXHIBITIONS
In this archive you can explore a selection of Art by the Sea's group shows in celebration of gallery milestones, and charity art exhibitions fundraising for nonprofits like Amnesty International, I Am Hope, and War Child. Some of the work is still available for sale.
We are so incredibly grateful to all of the artists who have provided work for our charity shows, and to the poets and musicians who volunteered their time and creative passion to make the opening nights such a success. We consider ourselves privileged to be able to curate this space for charitable enterprise and feel it come alive through the hard mahi of everyone who lends a helping hand.
These events raised considerable funds for the charities they supported. They also provided a space for talking and learning about important issues that affect us all, and listening to and reflecting on the experiences of others.
30th Anniversary Show
April 2022
Celebrating 30 years in business, this was one of Art by the Sea's first big group shows at our Takapuna location, marking one year since our move from Devonport. We remain humbled by the passion and commitment of our artists who have blessed us with their mahi for so many years and, in this exhibition, we were honoured to showcase their talent and express gratitude to the clients who have supported us.
Navigate the slideshow above to see a selection of artwork from the exhibition. Below, we have some key pieces that remain available for sale in our Takapuna gallery.

Milford Centre Sculpture Trail
October 2020

Celebrating Aotearoa New Zealand's Art Week, this exhibition and charity fundraiser featured a free sculpture trail in Milford Shopping Centre to raise funds and awareness for the Key to Life Trust and I Am Hope, a mental health and suicide prevention charity in NZ. The exhibition was sponsored by Milford Shopping Centre and curated by Art by the Sea. Free guided tours of the trail were offered by Art by the Sea staff in small groups every 15 minutes for the duration of the show.
In Aotearoa New Zealand we remain in a mental health crisis, with increasing numbers only representing reported cases. The Key to Life Trust and I Am Hope promote positive attitudinal societal change in schools and communities up and down the country, funding private care and counselling for young people stuck-in-the-mud on waiting lists. The staff and owners of Art by the Sea Gallery, and the artists whose mahi toi were exhibited in this show, were proud to offer their valuable work and time to support this important cause.
Te Koha
October 2017
This exhibition was held in support of the Key to Life Charitable Trust and their I Am Hope campaign, raising awareness and funds for youth mental health and suicide prevention. We are hugely grateful to the artists and poets who contributed their incredible mahi to this event and cause. Thanks, also, to Mike King for being our MC for the evening, and to rising Niuean singer/songwriter star Tommy Nee for his special guest performance.

Held during mental health awareness week, poets spoke with compassion, vulnerability, and incredible strength, opening the door to discussions about diverse mental health experiences and the impact of external/societal pressures in a country with so little available support. Many artworks were created exclusively for this show and its cause; a percentage of all sales went to the charity with some works donated entirely through a silent auction.

I Am A Child
July 2016

We believe that every child deserves a happy and joyful childhood.
This exhibition raised funds for War Child UK, contributing to their relief work in providing aid and support to children who are and have been affected by war and conflict. Artists created work celebrating what it is to be a child in Aoteaora New Zealand - from the simple pleasures of a marble run and fishing on the wharf, to the enchantment of pretending to fly. The resulting exhibition stood as a pillar representing the standard that should be experienced by all children across the world.

Cause for Collaboration
December 2013
Celebrating International Human Rights Day (December 10th), and in collaboration with Amnesty International, this event comprised artwork and poetry with each piece inspired by a different article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This exhibition had a difficult brief and our artists and poets put together an incredible show that set the tone for future charitable events at Art by the Sea. We are so proud of our artists and of what this exhibition achieved.
