Bio

Art is a universal language and, although imaginary, is understood and recognised by everyone everywhere. What is important is the pleasure each piece of art can bring into someone's life, in whatever form.
Dulcie Draper is a folk art ceramist based in Auckland, New Zealand. With over 25 years’ experience, her delicate pottery boasts colourful designs and landscape scenes on black or sandy backgrounds. Her ceramics range in shape and size from winged vases and tall roosters to round floor pots and sculptural kimonos.
Through the miracle of hand, heart, and soul you literally make something out of nothing. Each piece of my art fulfills its greatest purpose when it enhances a person's life, or finds its home in someone's heart.
Clay has always been Dulcie's preferred medium of artistic expression, although she enjoys painting as well. Colour variances and mistakes are retained as part of the process.
Although clay is relatively valueless in its raw state, it can be transformed by pushing, scraping, paddling into almost any imaginable shape and then decorated with designs and glaze.
Each of Dulcie’s pieces is individually handmade, and original (one of a kind).
