New Zealand Bush Scenes Artist
| Artists Statement "Art and creativity has found its way into my life at every opportunity, an important part of who I am and often poured into my garden. With the suppport of my 3 grown children I decided, in 2002, to pick up where I left off in the seventies, and moved to Wellington to become an art student again. While there I rediscovered my love of painting, a passion that I haven't given myself time to explore since my teens". "I'm fascinated by the rhythms and repeating patterns of nature. My surroundings in Gisborne where I live are an infinite source of inspiration. I often choose NZ native plants as my subjects. I love the painting process, colour and tonal choice, layering and what can be suggested by the simplest or most bold brush stroke. I chose to work in acrylic paint and generally on stretched canvas, thoroughly enjoying all stages in the production of a painting. My aim is lasting quality". I explore the effect of strong contrast, floating light and selective focus. What I learn from the close observation required in realism, resurfaces in the creation of the more abstract elements of my work. Somewhere between what I see and what I imagine. I hope to keep in balance these intuitive and technical influences and to capture your gaze".
