Peter Schoenauer
Born 1947 in West Germany Studied Science of Theatre and Media, Literature, Philosophy and History of Art at the University of Cologne, Germany Extensively traveled through Europe, Japan and the United States (1976-1981) Since 1981 permanent resident in New Zealand and has had extensive solo exhibitions. Peters work has been described as informal, lyric-abstarct, international abstract or lyric expressionism influenced by tachism. Altough the artist concedes that his work does not fit into any one category it is clear that his love and affinity for Asian art, culture and philosophy as well as a rich European ancestory have played a strong influence in his art form and content. Peter uses metallic paints in particular gold and silver and consistently incorporates texture in his work. He is inspired by landscapes, organic incidences of decay, Gustav Klimts work, rock formations, the Dalai Llamas residence in Tibet. |
