Paul Hooker Art Exhibition
Selected Portraits

Opening Saturday July 3rd at 4.30pm
Paul is a 4 time finalist in the National Portrait Awards (The Adam portrait awards)
and teaches portrait and figurative drawing at Whitecliff College of Art and Design
in Grafton Auckland as well as at South Seas Film and Televison School North Shore City.
Paul likes to discover the inherent strength that can be found in individual
portraits by quietly observing interesting face studies. He paints intuitively with a degree of perception
and only uses photographs as a reference tool. The work evolves on the canvas as he applys the paint allowing him
to discover more about his perception of the subject.
Character imperfections appeal to him and a general
feeling is evident in his work that the subject has experienced life in a particular way.
He has been influenced by the American artist Alex Kanevsky
