Megan Lee-Richards

Megan Lee-Richards was born in New Zealand. She started to paint seriously in Hawaii in the course of a world cruise on her family yacht. She was already a prolific painter at eighteen years of age, when she was given a regular space at the zoo at Oahu, which was a popular artists’ exhibition area in Hawaii. She married in Jamaica to a New Zealander and subsequently lived with her husband on board oil tankers for two years, mainly cruising the Persian Gulf. During this time she prepared paintings for an exhibition at the Durham Gallery in Remuera, arranged by the late Iris Fisher. After returning home Megan lived in Whangarei for twelve years and raised three sons. During this time she exhibited regularly at both Reyburn House Gallery, in Whangarei, and the Russell Gallery.Megan then moved to Devonport and Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore. In February 1995 she held her first exhibition at the Flagstaff Gallery in Devonport, and in 1996 won the Devonport Arts Festival Poster Competition.

Megan has recently moved to several different lifestyle properties and now resides in Whangaparoa. She continues to produce detailed oil paintings of old & historical buildings, landscapes and seascapes but now also specialises in equine paintings and animal portraits.
