Artists Biography: Matt Payne grew up, and lives, on the North Shore of Auckland. After leaving school in 1999 he earned a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation and represented New Zealand at World Championship level. In 2004 he attended Whitecliffe College of Art and Design and since then has created art on a part-time, and now full-time basis. His work is influenced by his love for NZ beaches, and landscapes in general are a major influence in his work. Influences: Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. He is mainly influenced by the environment around him and uses bright colours as an expression of the unique NZ natural environment. Education: Diploma of Fine Arts - Whitecliffe College of Art & Design Awards: Matt received joint top of Year 1 recognition at Whitecliffe College of Art and also a scholarship. Artists Statement:    My portrait work explores the relationships between colour, light and form. I enjoy discovering how different colours go together and even more importantly how these colours when put together are seen by the eye. My work is a proccess of deconstruction and reconstruction of the image. I look at all the pieces that make up the whole and play around with the colour combinations to acheive different effects. I am fascinated by how an image is just tiny bits of colour joined or linked together like some sort of code and this is what I explore in this exhibition. My portraits seek to capture a feeling or a moment but I am exploring the image at a deeper level.
