"I am standing on a hill in the Coromandel mid morning, with soft light falling on the hills and the still, clear water below.  I feel an overwhelming sense of calm.  The pace of the city is two hours away but feels a world away.  Sometimes it’s just a matter of ‘right place, right time’.  This was one of those times.  New Zealand is fortunate to have an amazingly clean light with the crisp, vivid colours in the midday sun that we are so familiar with.  Many will recognize these tones in my work.   But that soft morning or late afternoon light is something quite special again.  The soft colours of a landscape waking up are intoxicating.  The pinks, lavenders, soft yellows, grey greens and the quiet reflections on the water evoke such emotion.  I am relishing this new palette and embracing a fresh sense of painting addiction."
