Kirsty Nixon Exhibition October 2009

Kirsty Nixon NZ landscape artist

Kirsty is an artist who graphically captures the intensity of colour and light of New Zealand coastal scenes. For 16 years Kirsty has been a New Zealand landscape painter. Kirsty's exhibitions consistently sell well and her growth in popularity is a testament to the timeless quality and detail of her landscape scenes. Her appeal and recognition as one of New Zealand's foremost landscape artists has been celebrated in national art publications such as Art News and also international publications such as Asian Art News. Her range and experience in different techniques such as watercolour, etching and acrylic on canvas is further example of why she has accumulated such a large following of collectors. More recently she is including the archetypal "Kiwi" weatherboard and iron bach and Massey Fergusson tractor into the landscape scenes. This latest series of Kiwi icon paintings represents exceptional value.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed putting this exhibition together.  Meeting with fellow artist Tim Wilson earlier this year inspired me to challenge myself.  After a trying few months I was needing a recharge and this show has been it.
I
still have a love for coastal images and just love the feeling of a New Zealand summer and the way the warmer weather affects us.  People are happier, feel better and look more colourful.  Dinner is a barbecued sausage.  Days are longer.  Time is spent outdoors enjoying fresh clean New Zealand air.  Pohutukawas explode with colour.  Salads are fresh and grown in your own garden.  Potatoes are new.  Ice creams melt and togs are sandy.  It’s that feeling of happiness and summer that I have tried to capture My subject matter stays true but exploring with the larger canvas has been wonderful and liberating.  A huge blank canvas can be quite intimidating but once the first was completed it was truly hard to stop.

I hope you enjoy this show as much as I have enjoyed painting it. Thank you for coming. " Kirsty 2009 See more of Kirsty's artwork here
