John Clifford
| Versatility is
the key note to John Clifford's paintings whether they be in oil, acrylic
or watercolour. His subjects range through seascape painting and sailing painting, landscapes, portraits and bird
studies. His technique varies from broad impressionistic style painting
through stylised super realistic to meticulously detailed fine work. Born in 1932 and educated in Scotland, John was a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, winning Portrait Award of the Year. He studied post graduate in Paris then emigrated to Canada, where he taught art classes, painted portraits and landscapes, and was resident tutor of Vancouver Businessmen's Art Club. John designed settings for plays and shows, for C.B.U.T. Vancouver. He painted in San Francisco for two years before finally emigrating to New Zealand. He has since freelanced - illustrating for advertising agencies - taught art classes and more or less painted full time. John owned an art gallery for a short time but prefers painting. Three times a winner in the Kelliher Art Awards, he presently lives in Auckland's North Shore. John's paintings have been commissioned by Tanner Couch for calenders, books and folder covers etc., and a series of stylised paintings were selected by John Sands to celebrate New Zealand's centennial. |
