Graham has been carrying his paint box around since he was about eight years old. His work is very diverse like his many interests in life. His work ranges from conceptual, quirky or humerous, metal collages to traditional painting. He uses a lot of discarded materials in his collage work; recycling old things that nobody wants, turning them into something beautiful for people to enjoy. Graham started his career as an advertising art director and illustrator working for many international agencies and has won many awards. But, painting was his escape from that world. New Zealand art critic, T.J. McNamara has described Graham's paintings as "filled with light and full of charm and joy in water, clouds and sky. "After training in fine art, I had a career as an art director and illustrator, winning many national and international awards. I worked on many iconic New Zealand brands like Air NZ, Edmonds, Hubbard cereals, Cuisine magazine, Bell-Gully and many more. My work is diverse from classical plein air landscape to conceptual collage and sculptural pieces. I spent two years rebuilding a 32ft yacht that I used as my floating studio for my marine subjects. I paint my own history and the heritage of New Zealand and our lifestyle, but after a lifetime of concept work I find that I am more interested in the beauty of the world and the painting of light, the application of paint and the finished surface and effect."
