TE KOHA
October 7 - 25 Gala opening Saturday October 7th at 3pm
Please join us at the beginning of mental health awareness week for an exhibition of diverse and original artwork by NZ artists in support of Mike King's Key to Life Charitable Trust. Help us create an atmosphere of energy and positivity on opening night as we engage with performances by established and emerging NZ poets and musicians. All artworks on display will be a part of the fundraiser, including many new pieces created especially for this exhibition. 15% of all work sold will go to the charity. Several pieces will be donated exclusively through a silent auction. Scroll down to view some of the artists participating

Joanna and Mike King will be at the opening and Mike will MC the event.
With a special guest performance from rising Niuean singer/songwriter star Tommy Nee
and poetry performances from Michele Leggott, Annette Docking, Serie Barford, Katea Duff,
Michelle Chote, Cole Meyers.......

“BECAUSE THREE FAMILIES LOSE A LOVED ONE TO SUICIDE EVERY TWO DAYS IN OUR COUNTRY!”
The current “harden up, stay staunch and let’s not talk about it” attitude towards anyone with a mental illness or who is having thoughts of suicide is a major part of the problem. We also believe that without positive attitudinal societal change that the 547 New Zealanders who completed suicide in 2012 will be joined by a similar number this year. These figures can no longer be ignored or swept under the carpet by those who champion the ‘stay silent on suicide’ mantra currently in effect in Aotearoa. The fact that 3 families lose someone to suicide every 2 days in a country described by many as ‘gods own’ proves how ineffective this strategy has become. Our response to this insidious silent epidemic comes from the real experts on suicide. These are the people who have lost someone to suicide or who have attempted suicide themselves and they are all saying the same thing.
