An established Auckland artist who paints spectacular oils on linen Rosemary has had five exhibitions at Art by the Sea.

One of the outstanding features of Rosemary Eagles’ work that seduces the viewer, is her unrestrained use of texture and colour to depict expressions of different environments she has discovered . After excelling in art at school, in 1991, Rosemary completed an Interior Design Diploma at Whitecliffe School of Art and Design. She then went on to work at a textile importers where her contact with American and Indian textiles and fabrics increased her awareness of different substrates and textures, and stimulated her to pursue an earlier passion for oil painting.
Early bold colourful fruit and flower paintings gave way to earthy terrains, moody skys and evocative horizons. In 1996 Rosemary travelled extensively through the Middle East where countries such as Syria and Morocco exposed her to a completely different environment to that of the lush, fertile greens of New Zealand. Her work has been described by collectors as both “ peaceful and serene, vibrant and unique, or reminiscent of places visited “.
The play of light on sand dunes creating strong positives and negatives, the endless curves, forms , shapes and the rich warm glow of a sunset juxtaposed with the simple vastness of space that are her horizons. These works combine to show the complete beauty of nature that inspires Rosemary. Her more recent works depict New Zealand native flower and plant forms set against subtle background colours and painted on high quality stretched linen. These paintings make you take another look at the inherant beauty of common New Zealand plant forms.
