Lu Ossevoort

Lu has exhibited
successfully several times in both Tauranga and Auckland. Some of her
work is held in private collections in the USA and is currently being
shown in California. Lu comes from a background of signwriting, social
work, mural painting, display, retail and advertising, and she has also
completed two years of a visual arts programme through Manukau Institute
of Technology. Lu's inspiration is drawn from biblical texts and her
Christian faith. Her work reflects a sense of wonder and awe in the
spiritual nature of God, and in the way the universe, this planet, and
all life is sustained by the master Creator. Although this awareness
has always been with Lu, it was especially heightened by the births
of her three children to her husband Richard. Lu uses colour and light
effects to achieve a spiritual quality and low refief and texture to
"give life" to the more earthy elements. Lu's love of freedom
and spontaneity is seen in the versatility of her work. She enjoys the
challenge of combining the figurative with the abstract as well as including
the written word. Her method is one of constant experimentation with
ideas and concepts and a wide range of materials and found objects.
